RE: Dr. Swarc and Dr. Koonz
To whom it may concern:
I was born with a severe bilateral hearing loss. Over the course of my life, I have struggled with the discrimination commonly faced by all of us with disabilities. As of this date, I am now wearing my fourth set of hearing aids. I was constantly told that technology had made huge advances and that this time that the hearing aids would be “right”. I had gotten to the point where I viewed audiologists as little more than snake oil salesmen. None of my hearing aids worked for me. They were cumbersome, did not filter out background noise and caused constant middle ear infections.
As a counselor, communicating with people is my most important job function. As I neared 40, I began to notice that my hearing seemed to be getting a little worse. At the insistence of a friend, I made an appointment with Dr. Swarc. Dr. Swarc and his staff provided the highest level of professional service. And, unlike most doctors, he listened to my concerns. Dr. Swarc referred me to Dr. Koonz and it was a life changing experience.
Dr. Koonz tested my hearing and discussed with me the different options available to me. Naturally, I was skeptical. All audiologists will talk a good game, but once you have your hearing aids, they disappear. Not Dr. Koonz! Rather than just fit me with my new hearing aids and send me on my way, Dr, Koonz provided me with comprehensive services after I had them. He even made unscheduled adjustments to assist me in acclimating to the world of hearing. Rather than a “once and done” appointment, Dr. Koonz gradually increased the level of my hearing so that the sudden influx of new sounds did not overwhelm me. He made adjustments based on my situation and needs.
If anyone is in need of hearing aids, I strongly encourage them to consider Dr. Swarc and Dr. Koonz, even if and maybe, especially if, you have had negative experiences with other doctors. Thanks to services of Drs. Swarc and Koonz and their staff, I am enjoying life on a level that I have never experienced before. My hearing aids are so small that almost no one notices I am wearing them, but my loved ones and co-workers can definitely tell a difference.
Background noise is filtered wonderfully. My hearing aids are comfortable enough that within a few minutes of putting them in, I forget that I am wearing them. Most importantly, I can hear at “almost” normal. Thanks to Drs. Swarc and Koonz, I am now able to provide a higher quality of services to my clients.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. “Andy” Courson MS CRC Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, GA Dept of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation program Adjunct Professor Thomas University
