The Hearing Evaluation Process: Hearing and Balance Associates

Our audiology associates in Tallahassee conduct hearing evaluations thoroughly and expertly to determine proper diagnosis and treatment.  For each individual patient, we seek to learn the degree of impairment, particular tone ands speech sounds affected by the impairment and whether medical treatment is necessary.  The hearing evaluation can even provide us with the information we need to program your hearing device using computer software; doing so, we can match your needs exactly with a custom-made hearing device.  When you visit our office, expect to experience the following procedure during your hearing evaluation:

  • Expect to wear headphones during the examination.  You will be asked to respond to tones emitted through the earpieces.
  • Although you may experience some air pressure changes, the hearing evaluation process is not painful.  We’re determining whether any deficits in your outer or middle ear cavities exist.

Thanks to our advanced technology, we’re often able to construct appropriate amplification products based on the brief hearing evaluation process.  If the loss is medically treatable, we’ll refer you to a specialist.  In other cases, we can suggest hearing devices of many sizes and styles.  One of our professional audiology associates in Tallahassee, either a doctoral level audiologist or a state-licensed hearing instrument specialist, will assist you in choosing the device right for you.

We often have patients ask “Does Medicare cover hearing aids?”  The answer is no, but it will cover your hearing evaluation.  If you are not currently receiving Medicare, mention that you saw our website and we’ll conduct your hearing evaluation free of charge.
